RBHS CARE Team

The CARE Team is the primary curator of culture and climate experiences within the Ron Brown High School community from tier one, whole school norms to secondary group interventions to tertiary responsiveness to difficulties and crises. The CARE Team works at the intersection of vision and action specific to educating the whole person. Given the peril and bleak outcomes related to educational and social outcomes for young men of color in the District of Columbia and country at large, the CARE Team is part of Ron Brown’s comprehensive initiative to disrupt the school to prison pipeline through the empowerment of Young Kings as a catalysts for social and economic change.

The CARE Team is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of professionals including the school Social Workers, the Professional School Counselors, the School Psychologist, the Director of Culture and Empowerment, an Administrator, the Attendance Counselors, Restorative Technicians and a teacher. This cross section of professionals allows the CARE Team to comprehensively address culture, climate, restorative phenomena, and social/emotional learning for Young Kings through both policy and systemic structures. Through whole school moves such as our daily community circles, social and emotional learning classes, and a comprehensive behavior intervention system, the CARE Team brings its diverse skill set to bear in a way that delivers love and affection grounded in culturally responsive, evidenced based practices.

Push & Support

The CARE Team aims to show up for Young Kings as a consistent source of both push and support. Conversations, policies, restorative & support circles, teacher consultation, professional development, behavior tracking, community engagement, and strategic intervention are all integral pieces of the CARE Team’s function.

RBHS is…

All Young Kings will graduate as Public Figures who will influence their communities

The Black Biosphere is an oasis where Young Kings become Public Figures. Public Figures are critical thinkers, communicators, creators, and conquerors. The Young Kings will analyze the problems in their community, and develop strategies to assist and make a positive impact.

Agency & Advocacy

Public Figures must know who they are and the communities they serve. By demonstrating strong self-awareness and leadership skills, Public Figures can inspire and motivate others to act and make a positive impact in their own communities and beyond.

Health & Wellness

A Public Figure must understand and prioritize their own physical, mental, and emotional well-being in order to connect with the community. Young Kings will learn engaging ways to empathize with their communities to advocate for solutions regarding mental and physical health challenges and food disparities.

Storytelling

A Public Figure must be able to articulate the issues to galvanize the community to make change. Through the art of Storytelling, young kings will use their voice to get the attention of the larger audience to ultimately affect the change to bring innovative solutions.

Community Empowerment

A Public Figure must understand root causes of community-based disparities and how resources are allocated in order to better serve the community’s needs. Community Empowerment learning experiences place Young Kings within their communities, engaging with community leaders to bring about sustainable change.
